Kuntanase (Ash), July 24, GNA - The sod has been cut for work to begin on a Gh¢ 2,000,000 electricity expansion project at Kuntanase, the capital of the Bosomtwe District. The project, which is scheduled to be completed within two years, is made up of a switching station, customer service centre and a networking station and would be funded by the government. Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Kuntanase in the on Wednesday, Mr Emmanuel Lumor, Bekwai District Director of Electricity Company of Ghana, said the project when completed would strengthen the company's decentralization processes. The Bekwai office of the company is in-charge of the Bosomtwe District hence customers have to travel to Bekwai before they can have their problems solved.
Mr Lumor said as part of the project, a new high tension line would be connected from Ejisu to Kuntanase as a backup for the people of Kuntanase so that if there is any outage from Kumasi they could also switch to it.
The new station can also support Kumasi if there is a problem there. He said the project, on completion, would not only stabilize electricity supply to the Bosomtwe District and other surrounding communities along the lake but would also enhance business activities of the people.
Mr Edward Nti Berko, District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe, said the project would benefit communities such as Bonkoko, Boniegya, Fahiakobo, Abintinsua and Sarpongkrom.
The completion of the project would mean that the district has now attained 100 per cent electricity coverage. Nana Premoh Kwagyan, Krontihene of Kuntanase, thanked the government and the ECG for the project and said it had come as a great relief to his people and pledged to cooperate with the government to ensure that the project is successfully executed.
