Workshop for DGLC employees

Aflao, Oct. 4, GNA - A five-day training workshop in fire fighting for 19 employees of the Diamond Cement Ghana Limited (DCGL) as part of a programme to keep safety officers at the plant ended on Friday at Aflao.

The course run by the personnel of the Ketu District Office of the Ghana Fire Service (GFS) took participants through fire prevention, fire fighting, hydrant and foot drills and the use of fire extinguishers.

Mr. Emmanuel Fodjour, District Fire Officer, addressing the closing session noted that the frequent outbreak of industrial and domestic fires made it imperative for personnel of all institutions to train fire fighters to manage fire situations to reduce fire effects.

He said DCGL is a big company with huge assets that required protection and praised management's preparedness to organise training for their staff, which were drawn from various sections of the plant.

Mr Fodjour commended the participants for mastering the drills, which normally takes about a month to grasp, in five days.

He asked participants to keep training regularly and remain observant and alert on potential dangers to save the company's assets.

Mr. Chitti Babu, General Manager of DCGL praised the professionalism of the Fire Officers and hoped contact between them and the company would be maintained to help train other workers.

Mr David Wemegah, Group Leader, thanked the Fire Officers and management of DCGL for the opportunity offered them, promising that they would put the skills to good use.

Certificates of participation were issued to the safety guards. Mr William Mensah and Mr Seth Seshie were adjudged the best in academics during the training. 04 OCT.03
