Workshop in the management of Buruli Ulcer ends

Agroyesum (Ash), March 5, GNA- A five-day international workshop in Buruli Ulcer management has ended at Manso-Agroyesum in the Amansie West district of Ashanti.

It was sponsored by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Sasakawa Memorial Heart Foundation, an NGO and was designed to update the skills of the participants drawn from Saint Martin's Catholic Hospital, Agroyesum, Nkawie Government Hospital, Agogo Presbyterian Hospital, Bechem Hospital and the Dunkwa Hospital.

Speaking at the closing ceremony on Thursday, Dr Edwin Ampadu, the Programme Manager, hoped the participants who performed plastic surgery on Buruli Ulcer patients during the workshop, would use the experience gained at the workshop to manage the disease properly at their respective hospitals.

Dr Samuel Nyarko Etuaful, Medical Superintendent in-charge of the Saint Martin Catholic Hospital at Agroyesum, commended the sponsors of the Buruli Ulcer project, which he noted had come at the right time for the patients.

He said about 80 percent of the Buruli Ulcer patients at the Saint Martins hospital come from other regions and districts like Upper Denkyira, Atwima and Ahafo-Ano North.

Dr Etuaful also commended personnel of the hospital for the wonderful service they rendered at the hospital and urged them to keep it up.

He commended the Amansie West district assembly for constructing a 630-million cedis ward for Buruli Ulcer patients at the hospital.
