Winneba, May 12, GNA - A ten-day training workshop on grasscutter production for 16 farmers from five communities and two agricultural extension officers from the Gomoa District ended at Winneba on Monday. The workshop, organised by the Winneba District office of the Forestry Division of the Forestry Services Commission, was aimed at training participants to go into intensive grasscutter production to ease the hunting pressure on the Yenku forest reserve in the area and also create jobs for them.
It would help reduce the rate of bush fire that result from the hunt of the animal, which in turn affected the environment. Participants were taken through grasscutter breeding and general animal production.
Closing the workshop, the Effutu-Awutu Senya District director of the Forestry division, Mr Nimo Amoah said that each of the five communities would be provided with a set of breeding grasscutter made up of four females and a male and housing units to enable them start business.
He urged them to take good care of the animals for others to benefit from their activities.
A resource personnel from the grasscutter training centre of the Ministry of Agriculture at Ajumako, Mr Emmanuel Quansah urged the participants to put which they have learnt into proper use to enable them to benefit from it.
He thanked the Forestry Division for organising the workshop for them, which he said, would help reduce their financial burden.
