Kumasi, Sept 8, GNA - A two-day workshop for 27 directors of the various departments of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) on problem solving processes opened in Kumasi on Monday.
It is being organised by the Health Foundation Ghana (HFG) and Dreyfus Health Foundation, both non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in collaboration with the KMA.
The workshop is designed to equip the participants with skills in team building, how to identify and solve problems and to do effective co-ordination, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of programmes for action.
Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the workshop would supplement the existing knowledge and skills that they all have and make them better achievers.
He said even though the importance of training and continuous training cannot be disputed the increasing cost of function has tended to compel many organisations to relegate it to the background.
Mr Jumah said it is only through continuous training and self-development that one can catch up with the rest of the world. "New and improved management practices and techniques are being constantly introduced and being directors at the helm of affairs in our various departments we need to regularly update our knowledge so that we can be better equipped to direct our staff efficiently to achieve the goals of our organisation."
Mrs Linda Arthur, Country Director of Health Foundation Ghana, said she hoped the participants will take the workshop seriously so that at the end of it all, they will work better through team building, leadership and effective communication and will also be discharging their duties efficiently with more professionalism.
She said, "as directors they usually face many problems at their workplaces and these problems must be solved without shifting them to others who we cannot rely upon."
Dr Edward Prempeh, the Presiding Member of the KMA, asked the directors to put their experience, initiatives and expertise together to help their superiors to enhance good governance.
