Workshop on promoting girls' education held at Akim-Juaso

Akim Juaso (E/R), Feb. 18, GNA - The Strategy for Advancing Girls Education (SAGE), a Non-Governmental Organisation based in Accra, has organized a three-day workshop on the promotion of Girls' Education at Akim-Juaso, near Akim-Osino.

The workshop on the theme: "Promotion of Girl-Child Education," took the participants through topics such as Leadership Skills, Guidance and Counselling, Girls Education, Gender Issues, School Management and Keeping of Accounts.

It drew 24 participants from Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA), School Management Committees (SMC) and Girl Education Sub-Committees (GESC) at Akim-Juaso.

Miss Christiana Serwaa the workshop organiser and resource person, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Akim-Juaso on Monday that it was meant to broaden participants' knowledge and equip them with requisite skills to enable them to handle problems relating to school administration and management.

The knowledge acquired would also enable them promote girl-child education in rural areas, especially by making parents live up to their responsibilities of sending their wards to school, most especially girls.

The Unit Committee Chairman, Mr Patrick Obeng, urged the participants to take their lessons seriously to enable them to handle any problem effectively to promote girl-child education and urged students to refrain from pre-marital sex and other social vices. A nine-member sub-committee headed by Mr Obeng, was formed to promote girl-child education in the area.
