Kpong,(N/R), March 5, GNA - World Vision-Ghana (WV) is constructing a pond at the cost of $228,994 to help solve the perennial water shortage facing the Kpong community in the Savelugu/Nanton District.
The project, known as the Kpong Pond Improvement Project, would provide surface water to over 2,000 people in the community and provide animal watering troughs for over1, 000 goats and sheep and 500 cows.
Dr Philip Darko, Project Manager of WV, said this when he cut the sod for start of work on the pond at Kpong at the weekend.
He said out of the $ 228,994 a US philanthropist, Mr William Weyerhaeuser who visited the area and saw the plight of the people, provided $203,763, while the Savelugu/Nanton District Assembly and the community contributed $25,231.
Dr Darko said the pond would enable school children to attend school punctually and the women would get time to engage in other income generating activities.
He said WV would establish a well- trained management committee to educate the people on the maintenance of the pond and on safe water gathering techniques.
