World Vision donates 50 handwashing materials to West Gonja Municipal Assembly

A non-governmental organisation operating in the West Gonja Municipality, World Vision Ghana on June 26, 2020, presented 50 handwashing equipements and accessories to the West Gonja Municipal Assembly towards combating the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the municipality.

Presenting the items to the assembly, the Savelugu Cluster Manager of World Vision, Mr. Felix Apeti who on behalf of the National Director and the Northern Regional Operations said World Vision Ghana aims to see every household in the municipality having access to handwashing materials towards the fight of COVID-19.

He added that World Vision International which is an Evangelical Christian humanitarian aid, development, and advocacy organisation believes very well that the items presented would be distributed to the various less endowed communities more especially the World Vision Registered communities.

On the issue of communities without water, Mr Felix Apeti on behalf of World Vision Ghana appealed to the Municipal Assembly to release the assembly water tanker to supply water to the communities which his outfit will take care of the cost fuel since World Vision Ghana is very focused in promoting regular handwashing in the communities.

Mosques, churches, markets, CHPs compounds, chief palaces, lorry stations among other places have been earmarked in the communities for the placement of the handwashing materials.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the West Gonja Municipal Assembly, Mr Saeed Jibril Muhazu praised World Vision Ghana for the continuous support that the municipality has been receiving from them.

Mr Muhazu said the donated materials came at the right time especially when the Savannah Region had just recorded 34 new cases of Coronavirus even though his municipality is yet to record a case.

He said he will personally ensure the distribution of the items to the places that need them most.

He continued that apart from the Resiliency in Northern Ghana (RING) project that has phased out, World Vision Ghana is the biggest single donor NGO that supports the municipality mentioning education, health, provision of portable drinking water, etc as some examples of the support received from World Vision Ghana.

Mr Muhazu appealed to residents of the municipality to follow the safety protocols outlined by the President and the Ghana Health Service to be able to fight the menace of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region and Ghana as a whole.
