World Vision presents educational materials to GES

World Vision Ghana (WVG), an international non-governmental organisation, on Thursday presented educational materials to the Northern Regional Directorate of Education to improve teaching and learning.

The materials, which were estimated at 800,000 U.S dollars, included 60,928 copies of Science, Mathematics and English Language textbooks covering basic level education and 13,214 (129 boxes) of educational materials such as rulers, compasses, protractors and science kits for practical studies.

The materials have been distributed amongst WVG’s programme areas in the Northern Region which included West Gonja, Tolon, Zabzugu, Saboba, Gushegu, and Karaga districts and the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality.

Mr Manfred Zwikla, Director of Finance and Support Services of WVG, who handed over the items to authorities of the education directorate at Savelugu, said the donation formed part of WVG’s support to complement Government’s efforts at improving the quality of education for children living in deprived districts by enhancing their reading and numeracy skills.

Mr Zwikla said: “It is our hope that by making this additional donation of books and educational materials, it will go a long way to complement the resources of the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service and enhance teaching and learning for children in the beneficiary schools.”

He expressed the hope that stakeholders and Government would remain committed to playing their roles effectively in education delivery to improved learning outcomes.

Mr Daniel Salifu, Operations Co-ordinator of WVG, said the organisation was committed to promoting the well-being of children and would continue to engage with partners to deliver better opportunities for children in the country.

Alhaji Mohammed Seidu Issah Abah, Head of the Inspectorate Unit of the Northern Regional Directorate of Education, said teaching and learning materials were crucial in effective education delivery and commended WVG for the donation.

He challenged district directors of education to ensure that teachers prepared lesson notes when teaching to ensure improved education delivery.

Alhassan Abdulai Red, Municipal Chief Executive for Savelugu/Nanton, said the items would help to improve the standard of education in the beneficiary districts.
