Wudoaba raises 40 million cedis towards electrification project

Wudoaba (V/R), Dec. 19, GNA - Nearly 40 million cedis was realized by the people of Wudoaba, a farming community in the Ketu District at their maiden Gariza (Gari Festival) organized to raise funds towards an electrification project.

Wudoaba, famous as a major source of quality gari, named the festival after the staple.

Mr Albert Ziga, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu South, who was the guest speaker, donated 13.4 million cedis towards the project, a 20-inch television set and a 240-voltage power inventor worth six million cedis to the community.

The MP also presented 200 exercise books being part of 10,000 printed at the cost of 26 million cedis for schools in his constituency to the Wudoaba Junior Secondary School and also pledged 20 million cedis to provide potable water for the community from his share of the MPs Common Fund.

He also pledged to assist them put up a kindergarten block so they could benefit from government's absorption of kindergartens and appealed to parents to care for their children's education and development. Togbe Adzoka IV, chief of the town said the community needed power to utilize a gari-processing centre established years ago by the government, which had been lying idle for the lack of power. Togbe Pasaku, chief of Hatsukope, who chaired the function, said self-help projects were the quickest means by which communities could attract external support.
