Akim Oda (E/R), Nov. 25, GNA- The Youth for Action Organisation (YAO), a Non governmental Organisation (NGO), on Tuesday organised a musical show dubbed "Stop HIV/AIDS" at Akim Oda to create awareness among school children on the dangers of the disease.
The programme, which attracted mostly JSS students, aimed at stemming the spread of the HIV/AIDS.
President of the NGO, Mr Paul Kwesi Mensah, appealed to the youth to guard against pre-marital sex in order not to ruin their future.
He told them that apart from contracting the HIV/AIDS through sexual intercourse, sharing of contaminated needles and blades was also another means of contracting the virus.
Mr Mensah, therefore, stressed the need for all organisations engaged in the HIV/AIDS campaign not to concentrate only on unprotected sex to the neglect of other modes of infection.
The Assistant Programme Director of the organisation, Mr Alex Oduro Ntiamoah Jnr., called for the elimination of the stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS to discourage them from going underground to affect more people.
He appealed to farmers and beauty therapists to ensure that their instruments were always sterilised in order not to promote the spread of the disease to their customers.
Some of the students recited poems and sang songs on the devastating nature of the HIV/AIDS.
