Yabi (Ash), April 11, GNA - The people of Yabi in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district of Ashanti on Saturday raised over four million cedis towards the construction of a health centre at an Easter fund raising rally.

The health centre, which is expected to cost about 200 million cedis would be funded through a flat rate of 100,000 cedis.

The occasion was also used to inaugurate a 14-seater place of convenience constructed at the cost of 120 million cedis by Nana Amankwa Afram, Asantehene's Sika Akuahene. The people provided communal labour and iron rods for the project.

Nana Afram called for the revival of the spirit of unity, which bound the people together in the past expressed regret that disunity contributed to the lack of development in the town.

Mr Kofi Boadu, the unit committee treasurer, said he was worried that out of the three boreholes earmarked for the town, only one had been sunk because the people could not raise the 7.5 million cedis being the amount required from the community to enable the projects take off. He said the people could not pay for its share of 2.5 million cedis for the completion of the borehole that had already been sunk. Mr Boadu, therefore, appealed to the community to pay their levies towards the provision of potable water.

He said the community was also rehabilitating their junior secondary school with assistance from the district assembly who have provided roofing sheets while the construction of a primary school was also in the offing.
