You must come out of SHS refined - DCE advises SHS students

Mr Nelson Akorli, Ho Municipal Chief Executive has said students of Senior High schools must exhibit the maturity of young adults, and graduate as refined individuals.

He said to attain a brightened future, students must possess the right attitudes, and sacrifices, and also "eschew all the negative vices, stay focused, and be respectful."

The MCE said this at the 2019 graduation ceremony of Wallahs Academy, a private Senior High school in the Ho Municipality, which was on the theme: "After Senior High School Education, What Next?"

He noted that nowadays, students were occupied with mischief and excessive play, and said they must be inspired by graduates who made it in life and endeavour not to suffer the same fate that befell recalcitrant ones.

"The behaviour you put up in school will playback when you are gone," Mr Akorli said, asking students to work hard, and eschew alcohol, drugs, and immoral behaviour.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Mr Peter Gyimah, Deputy Volta Regional Police Commander entreated students to develop their skills, and take up the trade of their parents saying they might end up making it better.

He also asked them to join associations and seize learning opportunities.

Mr Maxwell Affram, Rector of the School said the school was managing its share of indiscipline, and would not hesitate to ban the use of disruptive items such as mobile phones on campus.

He said aside its financial needs, Wallahs Academy was struggling with non-availability of water, causing students to search for the commodity in town with its attendant issues.

Mr Affram said despite the challenges, over 80 percent of its students secured admissions into higher institutions of learning.

The Rector also appealed to stakeholders for a school bus and a standby power generator, to help the school keep up with academic activities.

Madam Enerstina Benuena, Headmistress of Mawuko Girls SHS who chaired the event asked parents to support their graduates with skills such as ICT towards preparing them for future endeavours.

Wallahs Academy was in 2006 elevated from an institution offering classes for exams resisters to a senior high school, and currently has a population of 490 of which 354 are boarders.

A total of 130 students graduated from the Arts, Science, Visual Arts, business and Home Economics departments.

Master Sullo Kennedy and Verity Agbedzetor Delali were awarded for being the most disciplined students.
