The event brought together students, teachers, volunteers, and civic educators
The CA Foundation, in collaboration with its partners NCCE, Alicia Global, and the National Alliance of Ghana Law Students (NAGLS), and with the support of private donors and law students from the Ghana School of Law, successfully organised a Constitutional Literacy Quiz on Thursday, 5th March 2026, at Independence Avenue 1 Basic School, Makola, Accra, to mark the 69th Independence Day celebration.
The event brought together students, teachers, volunteers, and civic educators who facilitated and inspired a lively educational competition among the pupils. The initiative was designed to deepen students’ understanding of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution while promoting civic awareness and responsibility among young learners.
The Constitutional Literacy Quiz serves as a tool for the CA Foundation to assess the progress of students participating in the CA Project since January 2026.
After the contest, Section Green emerged as the overall winner and was awarded a cash prize of GH¢1,000 for their outstanding performance. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as students demonstrated impressive knowledge of key constitutional principles, including their rights as citizens, the role of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), sources of law in Ghana, the role of Parliament, and the concept of citizenship.
Speaking after the program, the Executive Director of the CA Foundation, Celestine Addo, emphasised the importance of educating young learners about the Constitution in the context of Ghana’s 69th Independence:
“In celebrating Ghana’s 69th Independence, we must invest in educating the next generation about the basic law of the land (Constitution) that guides our democracy. Activities such as the Constitutional Literacy Quiz provide young learners the opportunity to appreciate their rights, understand their responsibilities, and grow with a strong sense of national identity and civic duty.”
The Deputy Director of Programs for NCCE, Rebecca Colecraft, expressed her joy, stating, “I am truly impressed by the ability of these young students to confidently articulate key aspects of the 1992 Constitution. Their understanding of their rights as children, their appreciation of what defines them as Ghanaian citizens, and their awareness of their duties and responsibilities are remarkable. As the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), we are delighted by the progress of the CA Foundation and proud to recognize it as one of our valued developmental partners in advancing civic education in Ghana.”
She further noted that the initiative is the first of its kind within the Area Council and assured that the NCCE will continue to support and collaborate on its implementation, with the aim of expanding the programme across the country.
The CA Project is a flagship programme from the CA Foundation aimed at educating children in basic schools about the Constitution. It also provides every basic school in Ghana with copies of the 1992 Constitution for children, enabling students to read and understand their basic rights and responsibilities as Ghanaians.
The project is implemented through partnerships, sponsorships, and volunteering from legal professionals and law students across Ghana.
As a law student and the founder and executive director of the CA Foundation, Celestine Addo, reiterated:
“If we hope to have responsible citizens in the near future who will be committed, fully participate in governance, and uphold the principles of democratic governance in Ghana, then these young ones should be our priority.”
The CA Project extends its appreciation to all partners, sponsors, and volunteers for their unwavering support in advancing civic education across the country.
