National Youth Authority CEO, Emmanuel Sin-Nyet Asigri
Work on the Youth Resource Centre (YRC) worth 4.8 million Ghana Cedis, at Navrongo in the Upper East Region, is scheduled to be completed by April next year, to foster rapid youth development in the area.
The Resource Centre is a sporting facility that comes with an ultra-modern complex sports stadium which would house an Information Communication Technology (ICT) centre, cafeteria, counselling centre, restaurant, and indoor games facilities among other things.
It has a 500 seater capacity sports stadium which would promote sporting activities including football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, athletics and indoor games among others.
Mr Emmanuel Sin-Nyet Asigri Asigri, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority (NYA), said this when a nine Member- Board of the NYA led by Madam Francisca Oteng-Mensah, the Board Chairperson, visited the project at Navrongo in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality, to inspect the progress of work.
Mr Asigri, addressing the Media after the inspection, said the project when completed would foster the rapid development of the youth as it would promote recreation and facilitate sporting activities in the region.
He said the facility would not only serve the region and country but would, in addition, serve as a training point for sportsmen and women from neighbouring Burkina Faso, Mali and other sister countries that may express interest.
Mr Asigri said the government was committed to providing avenues that would build the capacity of the youth and enable them to participate effectively in the development of the country.
The project which started last May, when completed will be resourced with the necessary equipment needed to make it run efficiently.
Mr Williams Aduum, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Kassena Nankana Assembly, lauded the initiative and said the project was a tool that could be used to unearth the talents of young people in the region as many of them were sports oriented but had been hindered by lack of facilities.
The team later visited the Sandema Youth Institute in the Builsa North District where it inspected an ongoing 300 seater dining hall and a 100-bed girls’ dormitory for the institute.
