A youth activist in the Asunafo North Constituency of the Ahafo Region, Ohene Larbi, is calling on authorities to take immediate steps towards rehabilitating the deteriorating Kasapin-Bediako road.

The road, which connects several farming communities, has been in a deplorable state for years, posing significant challenges to the residents, particularly farmers who rely on the road for transporting their produce.

Impediments

Speaking on the issue today Mr. Larbi emphasised that the poor condition of the road is a major impediment to the socioeconomic development of the area.

“This road is a lifeline for our people, especially the farmers who depend on it to transport cocoa, plantains, maize, and other agricultural products. The current state of the road is hampering our economic progress,” he stated.

Goods and services

The road serves as a key transportation route, facilitating the movement of goods and services from Kasapin to Bediako.

However, the dilapidated state of the road has led to increased transportation costs, negatively affecting local farmers.

"High transportation costs are cutting into farmers' profits, and some have even faced post-harvest losses because vehicles refuse to use the route due to its poor condition," he noted.

The poor road network has also limited access to essential services, including healthcare and education.

According to Mr. Larbi, “In emergency cases, delays in accessing medical care have cost lives. Students also struggle to reach schools, especially during the rainy season when the road becomes nearly impassable.”

Intervention

The activist is calling for urgent government intervention, noting that improved road infrastructure would stimulate development in the constituency.

“A well-constructed road will not only ease the transportation of goods but will also attract investment, create jobs, and enhance livelihoods, particularly for the youth engaged in agribusiness and small-scale enterprises,” he said.

Mr. Larbi urged local authorities and policymakers to prioritise the rehabilitation of the Kasapin-Bediako road, stressing that the state of the infrastructure is a major hindrance to the progress of the region.

"It’s time for swift action. This road must be transformed to ensure a better future for all residents in the Asunafo North Constituency," he added.
