Dr Archibald Yao Letsa has relaunched the Youth for Christ Ghana
Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, has relaunched the Volta Regional chapter of Youth for Christ Ghana, an interdenominational youth Ministry, with a call on the young generation to pursue evangelism to serve God.
According to him, the youth possessed the energy, and could therefore better utilise God’s anointing in reaching out to lost souls.
“God’s Great Commission unto His children gives us the responsibility to preach and teach Christ’s dynamic gospel to every person throughout the world and to make disciples in all nations.
So that they can, in turn, saturate their nations with the Good News of Christ and further train other disciples to do the same generation after generation through the process of spiritual multiplication,” he said.
“As youths, you have the energy and are more poised to carry out this important assignment given to all followers of Christ. People are hungry to know God and you have the answer which is the Word of God”, he said.
The Regional Minister, who is also a pioneering member of the Ministry, asked the youth to consider their future careers “seriously”, and make good use available of resources and opportunities to enhance their livelihoods.
Youth for Christ was formed in 1990 with a vision of bringing young people under the umbrella of Christ, train and disciple them back into local churches.
Aside its objectives of youth evangelism, and leadership training, the Ministry also pursued income generating activities including beekeeping, and cowpea farming before it became dormant somewhere in the year 2012.
Mr Jackson Fiifi Mensah, National Director of the Ministry, called for attitudes that would develop, empower, and equip the youth to participate in the growth of the Church.
Mr Kenneth Kponor, Volta Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), who chaired the launch, said the youth required empowerment at all levels to be able to play their leadership roles effectively.
He said they must be constantly engaged and mentored, adding that only through that would the adage “youth are the future”, be realised.
Rev John Kofi Avorgah, the pioneer of YFC Volta Region, urged leadership to explore the numerous opportunities around them to support their activities, and strive to achieve more than they did.
Madam Yayra Bekui, the newly appointed Regional Coordinator of the Ministry, pledged to increase membership of the Ministry and ensure that its former glory was restored.
“We have to tune ourselves to meet the times and trace our roots to Jesus Christ. We want to see young people do things for God”, she said.
The coordinator appealed for volunteerism and financial support to grow the Ministry, and further appealed to pioneers and former members to return and help formulate ideas to motivate the youth.
Notable among the activities of the Ministry are family life programmes, which centres on issues relating to relationships, marriage and parenting.
The Ministry also organises workshops for schools and runs clubs in schools and communities.
It also organises leadership training seminars and vacation bible classes in addition to sensitisation programmes on health related matters.
The Ministry has been constituted in six regions in the country and plans are ongoing to expand its reach.
Youth for Christ was formed in the 1940s but came to Ghana in 1967 and was launched in the Volta Region in 1989.
