Funsi (UW), Jan. 16, GNA - The South Sissala Tertiary Youth Association, has called for the expulsion of Fulani herdsmen in the area who they blamed for degrading the land with their cattle. In a resolution passed at the end of a meeting at Funsi in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region, they called on the chiefs in the area to champion the campaign to get the herdsmen out. The association also asked the District Assembly to enact laws that would ban the use of chain saws to fell trees, an activity the members said was rising at an alarming rate.

In a resolution passed at the end of a meeting at Funsi in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region, they called on the chiefs in the area to champion the campaign to get the herdsmen out. Mr. Timothy Nbenaba, President of the Association explained that the decision to call for the expulsion of the Fulani herdsmen was to avert any future clash between farmers and the herdsmen. Touching on the activities of the chain saw operators, he said they were depleting tree species like mahogany, which was good for lumber and also exposing the environment to the vagaries of the weather.
