Nsawam (E/R) Sept. 11, GNA - Executive members of youth groups in the Akuapem South District, have called on the Government to adequately resource the National Youth Council (NYC) to enable the Council to implement all its programmes and facilitate activities of the youth towards national development.
The executives said that the youth were the future leaders of the country, and every effort should be made ro ensure their manpower development.
They made the call at a meeting with the Eastern Regional Co-coordinator of NYC and other officials at Nsawam at the weekend. The visit formed part of the Council's programme to ensure that the Executives interacted with the youth in the region, find out problems that militate against youth development for onward transmission to the Government for solutions.
The Executives said most of the NYC offices in the Districts were with no adequate furniture and equipment to facilitate work and called on the Government to adequately equip the NYC officers through out the country to enable them work satisfactorily.
Mr Paapa Adjei Kyeremeh, the Eastern Regional co-coordinator of NYC advised the youth against drug abuse, prostitution, alcoholism, armed robbery and other social vices that could affect their development. Mr Samuel Azumah, the District NYC co-coordinator, appealed to the authorities to organize courses on entrepreneurship for youth group members to address the problem of street children and check urban- migration and the spread of HIV/AIDS.
