The youth have been advised to demonstrate some level of responsibility in their actions as they demand for the rights.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Eunice Annor of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) gave the advice at a sensitization and awareness campaign organized by Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF) on the theme "Youth awareness improves justice" at Koforidua.
She said most people were not aware of the rights of children and therefore did not accord children those constitutional and legal guarantees, and called on institutions to create platforms for such awareness.
DSP Annor pointed out some rights of the child such as the right to education, healthcare, shelter, the right of a juvenile not to be detained in the company of criminals or to be tried in an open court among others.
She said most of the rights, however, went with responsibilities such as the responsibility to learn, take medications on regular basis and not to resist arrest.
Mrs. Abena Oppong Ntiamoah, an officer of the Social Welfare Department, advised students who had challenges to seek support from her department.
The campaign sought to educate young people on their fundamental human rights, the children’s act and juvenile justices act through community-based outreach programmes.
