Kadjebi (V/R), March 19, GNA - The Kadjebi District Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports has inaugurated zonal literacy advisory committees to enhance the activities of the Division.

Membership of the committees includes traditional rulers and Assembly members. In an address, Mr Peter Aduan, Acting District Co-ordinator of NFED noted that since the inception of adult literacy programmes, communities had been excluded from its operations, a situation he described as unfortunate.

He said it was for that reason that opinion leaders in the community were being considered to see to the day-to-day activities of the programme.

Mr Aduam said orientation courses would be organized for the committee members and that reading centres would be established in every zone in Twi and Ewe for learners. He said literacy rallies would be organized in reading to select the best zone to represent the district as part of the National Literacy Day Celebrations.

Mr Aduam appealed to the District Assembly to provide reading glasses to learners with sight problems. Nana Osei Bonsu III, Paramount chief of Asato Traditional Area, expressed delight in the involvement of the community in the NFED programme and pledged to provide a building for the proposed reading centres.
