Wa, Oct. 8, GNA - Mr Emmanuel Volsuuri, Upper West Regional Manager of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has reiterated the company's ardent determination= to reduce mosquito infestation and the spread of malaria in the region. Mr Volsuuri stated that the company had therefore embarked on a massiv= e mosquito spraying exercise across the length and breadth of the region to clamp down on the malaria agent. The Zoomlion Regional Manager, who spoke to the GNA in Wa about the exercise, gave the assurance that the exercise would be carried out on regular basis so as to reduce drastically the harmful disease causing vectors and their attendant health problems. He said malaria was the leading cause of deaths in the region. Mr Volsuuri said the company had also intensified its public sensitization drive through local radio programmes, community durbars and Zoomkid Clubs in order to raise public awareness on the harmful effects of those vectors and the control measures available to mitigate the effects. Throwing more light on the exercise, Mr Ezekiel Anabire Ayamga, Regional Vector Control Officer of the Company, said the exercise was targeted at both adult mosquitoes and the larvae. He said it covered all mosquito breeding sources such as ponds, slow moving streams as well as potential breeding sites in all districts across the region. He added that environmental management such as de-silting of choked gutters was carried out during the exercise to prevent mosquitoes from breeding inside the drains. Mr Ayamga said public toilets, refuse container sites as well as final disposal sites were disinfected to help destroy houseflies and other harmfu= l disease causing vectors.
