One arrested for raiding a Togolese village

Aflao (V/R), March 17, GNA - The Aflao Police have arrested one Kofi Ahiakpe believed to be a member of a group that raided Akato, a Togolese village.

Mr Samuel Sackitey Superintendent of Police in charge of Aflao, told the Ghana News Agency that Ahiakpe, 35, was a member of the Kuvodu Family that had a long-standing land dispute the Akato family on the Togo side of the border.

He said the Kuvodu family on the Ghana side, allegedly launched a surprise armed attack on members the Akato family in Akato village in Togo killing two of them and leaving five others seriously wounded. Superintendent Sackitey said one Amuzu Hunsunkpe, 46, was killed during the attack while an un-named woman, who was among those wounded, died four days later at a hospital in Lome, where the rest are receiving treatment.

He said Police investigations were ongoing and all those involved would be arraigned. Meanwhile the Togolese Security has moved into the village, which is deserted except for a few returnees. 17 March 06
