Obuasi hails Black Stars victory

Obuasi, June 18, GNA - Obuasi, one of Ghana's most soccer loving municipality erupted into unprecedented joy and jubilation immediately the final whistle blasted to declare the Black Stars 2-0 victors in the second match against Czech Republic at the on-going World Cup in Germany.

Most of the principal and minor streets in the municipality got jammed, as jubilant youth took to the streets with drums, flags and T-shirts bearing the names of some of the Black Stars player to celebrate the sweet victory. At the Zongo portion of the Obuasi street the scene was simply unbelievable, as the youth spread themselves on the highway, inviting on-coming vehicles to run over then. Commercial and private vehicles tooted their horns to add colour to the jubilation, as large crowd lined up along the streets to witness the celebration.

Hajia, a lady, who was witnessing the rapturous scene, told GNA sports that Ghana was on her way to victory "We are going to triumph". A Jubilant lady clad in Ghana's colours said, "it is not easy, I am over joy". Master Ernest Appiah, a primary six pupil of St. Joseph's school, who was engaged in a conversation with a friend said, "even Brazil, we are not afraid of them". Akosua Dwirah-Mensah, also a pupil of Steadfast Academy, who said she felt cold, when the going got tough, expressed her satisfaction with the performance of the players.
Drinking spots in the municipality were not left out in the jubilation. As at Mummy's Countryside Pub, the proprietor, Regina Mama Blay out of joy, unconsciously hug a man, she did not know, so passionately. "I am going to give our goalkeeper, Richard Kingston a day's scholarship no matter the consequences, when he returns to Ghana" Mama said with all smiles. Before the match, there were mixed feelings with regards to the Black Stars chances but Danso Abeam, a Pioneer newspaper correspondent at Obuasi, who wore the Areeba wonderful hut for the first time was optimistic about the victory of Ghana.
