" Keep Off AGOSEC School Land" -Nene Nuer Keteku

Kpetoe (V/R), June 18, GNA- Nene Nuer Keteku III, Konor of Agotime Traditional Area on Saturday warned encroachers of the Agotime Secondary School (AGOSEC) land to keep off the School's property in time for their own good. " One of these days, I will call for the assistance of the PWD to mark out all these unauthorized buildings for demolition", the Konor said.

Nene Keteku, who was speaking at the first ever Speech and Prize Giving Day of AGOSEC at Kpetoe noted with pain that though the area was now a district capital, negative attitudes including encroachment on government lands were retarding its development. He said it was unfortunate that people were building anywhere and anyhow without building permits, which he said, were all acts of indiscipline. Nene Keteku stated that all such buildings were a great disincentive to the development of the area, more so when they were rented out at very high prices to visitors who came to work in the area. He therefore, called on the people to be law abiding and disciplined to project the area as befitting a district capital with their hospitability, adding that they should die a little for the development of the area.

Nene Keteku underscored the importance of education and urged the people to endeavour to be stakeholders in education as they look after their children through school at least to the senior secondary level. Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister who was the guest of honour said government was fully aware of its responsibilities of providing increased access to quality education. He said it was in that connection that it had demonstrably rescued the educational system from the doldrums through efforts, programmes and policies. Mr Nayan noted that the educational infrastructure development going on from the basic to tertiary levels was comparatively monumental and needed the efforts of other stakeholders to complement government's effort since classroom because " we will all agree that classrooms, books, dormitories etc cannot themselves provide a desired educational standard", he said.

Mr. Nayan urged the students to play their role by learning hard and be disciplined anywhere they found themselves in school and out of school. Earlier, Master Isaiah Agbemavi, School Prefect of AGOSEC said the school lacked adequate school blocks and had insufficient library books for its teeming population of 542. He therefore, appealed to the government and other stakeholders in education to come to the aid of the school with infrastructure and other teaching and learning materials. In all, 35 students, one tutor and four non-teaching staff were honoured for their meritorious work in the school.
