Winneba Junction, June 27, GNA - The Chiefs and the People of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area have performed rituals to officially takeover the Winneba-Junction land. The takeover of Winneba-Junction now called Gomoa Ajumako -Junction followed the Agona Swedru High Court ruling on 30th May 2006 in favour of the Gomoas.
Neenyi Kobina Ghartey, Omanhene of Effutu Traditional Area sent the case to court to restrain the Gomoa District Assembly from interfering and trespassing on the land at the junction. Addressing the people at the ceremony, Mr Richmond Sam Quarm, MP for Gomoa East said the people of Gomoa, had been cheated for far too long by the previous governments for refusing to heed to their call for more than 50 years.
He noted that the Convention People's Party (CPP) government headed by the first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah placed an injunction on the lands and deprived the people of Gomoa the right to enjoy the fruits of their forefathers.
The MP noted that justice had delayed but not denied the Gomoas and gave the assurance that the two MPs in the area would do every thing possible to ensure that the Electoral Commission (EC) properly demarcated.
Nana Okatakyi Yamfo Krampah, Omanhene of the Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Area, said the people of the area had suffered untold hardship and appealed to the government to remove all the restrictions it placed on the land.
He said the Junction had been given a new name as Gomoa Ajumako Junction and stated that the Gomoa District Assembly would collect tolls from the area.
Nana Yamfo Krampah gave the assurance that the Traditional Council would assist to construct a new market at the junction. Mr Joe Hackman, MP for Gomoa West, praised the chiefs and the people for exercising restraint during the dispute and allowing the law to take its cause.
He promised to ensure more development in the area to raise the living standard of the people. 27 June 06
