Accra, June 30, GNA 96 Residents of Donkro Nkwanta, Nkoranza South Constituency of Brong Ahafo Region, have appealed to the Ministry of Transportation to fix a road leading to the area that had crippled the movement of vehicles and people.

They said a six-mile link from Sekodumasi to Nkoranza was 93in a very bad state, full of potholes, hills and even gullies=94. Mr Antwi Amoateng, a native of Donkro Nkwanta and Spokesperson for the residents, on Friday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the situation had worsened with the onset of the rains. He said the road had become impassable thus forcing foodstuff traders to go elsewhere, adding: 93This has led to most of our foodstuffs (maize and yam) going bad.@

Mr Collins Ofosu, Assemblyman of Donkro Nkwanta Electoral Area, also told the GNA that the portion of the road formed part of the Aframso-Nkoranza road network which President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2000 promised to construct for the people.

He said true to the President's promise, work started in 2001 but after 93tarring from Aframso to Sekodumasi, we did not see the contractor again, leaving those of us who live between Sekodumasi to Nkoransa without a good road=94.

Mr Ofosu said one construction firm, Issuya Ghana Limited, was working on the road but on reaching Sekodumasi, they left the equipment and left.

He said various attempts made to impress on the authorities to come to their aid had proved futile.

=93I have personally written to and followed up with the District Chief Executive, the MP and the Minister of Transportation, who during a recent tour of the area, came to see the situation, but still nothing has been done=94.

Mr Ofosu, therefore, appealed to Government to intervene to see to it that the road was tarred.
