Tamale, Sept. 11, GNA - The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) in collaboration with Church Growth Resources (GGR) Mission of United States of America is to establish a "Christian African Village - A safe place for homeless Children" in Tamale. The Village would train orphans, brilliant but needy children, unemployed youth, street children, abandoned women and the marginalized in society.
In addition, it would provide formal education to children under 15 and vocational training to adults and inculcate religious and moral principles in them.
Reverend Dr Martin Bugri Nabor, Coordinator of the project announced this at the graduation of the first batch of nine seamstresses trained by the Church in Tamale at the weekend.
The seamstresses, who passed out after two years training, were provided with sewing machines, materials and other logistics from 25 million cedis provided by Dr Stan Wood, Chairman of the Mission. Rev. Nabor who is also the District Pastor of the Church in Tamale, said Tamale was chosen as the focal point to serve the various ethnic groups in Northern, Upper East and West Regions.
=93Tamale is also the mission field of the Northern Presbytery of the church where converts will find a safe spiritual home,=94 he added. Rev. Kwesi Addae Naami, Chairman of the Northern Presbytery of the Church advised the newly trained seamstresses to join the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) to enable them access credit facilities to establish their own shops. He said the Church would soon establish a vocational training centre at Nakpanduri in East Mamprusi District to train the unemployed youth in various vocations to make them self-employed. Each of them received a certificate of participation.
