Tongo (UE/R), Sept. 27, GNA - The Talensi Nab-Dam District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Sebastian Bisnab, on Tuesday said education was one of the top priorities of the Assembly and would strive to enhance its development in the area. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, the DCE observed that the area lagged behind in education and there was the need to help reverse the trend for quick development.

He stressed that without education, no development could take place and that the Assembly since its inception two years ago, had so far disbursed about 360 million cedis on 409 pupils and students at the junior and senior secondary schools, as well as the tertiary levels among others.

He announced that the Assembly was also sponsoring student-nurses and teachers at colleges towards the development of the district, adding that, they had been bonded to work in the district after the completion of their courses. The DCE said with the introduction of the capitation grants and the school feeding programme, enrolment figures had increased tremendously and the Assembly in collaboration with the District Directorate of Education intended putting up more schools to absorb the increase. He said the Assembly had donated about 18,000 exercise books and some television sets to the district directorate of education to be distributed to schools in the area, to help achieve quality education.
