Fomena-Ashanti, Nov. 28, GNA - Nana Aboagye Agyeman II, Krontihene of Fomena has appealed to Adansi North District Assembly to come out with ideas and strategies that would assist the assembly to widen its revenue base.

He said over dependence on market tolls and property rates were not viable since the assembly needed to generate enough internal revenue for accelerated socio-economic development. Nana Agyeman made the appeal when addressing the maiden meeting of the assembly at Fomena. He urged the assembly to come out with byelaws that would help improve sanitation in the district, particularly at the district capital.

Nana Agyeman observed that some parts of the district capital had been turned into refuse dumps and places of convenience, adding "Since chiefs did not have powers to arrest such people, the assembly should enact byelaws to ban such activities at unauthorised areas". He congratulated the assembly members for their election and appointments but reminded them of their responsibilities to the electorate who gave them their mandate. Nana Agyeman who is a legal practitioner, regretted that most assembly members went from house-to-house to campaign when they needed votes from the electorate but shunned them after winning the election. He said Act 462 enjoined assembly members to meet the electorate before and after every assembly meeting so that views of the electorate were carried to the next meeting and decisions taken communicated to them.

Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, Adansi North District Chief Executive, expressed appreciation about the progress made by the assembly in terms of infrastructure development.
