Sunyani, Dec. 23, GNA 96 Mr. Charles Koomson, Chairman of the Brong Ahafo regional branch of Ghana Journalists Association has advised journalists to abide by the ethics of the profession to sustain its respect and hour among the people. He noted that the liberalisation of the airwaves and newspaper publication had rather opened the floodgates for the emergence of spurious characters, who clad themselves as journalists.

"It is up to responsible practising journalists to help check against the trend to avoid the profession being looked down with scorn and disrespect", Mr. Koomson, who is the Regional Manager of Ghana News Agency said. He was speaking at an end of year get together of the branch association in Sunyani.

The GJA Regional Chairman advised members to eschew petty squabbles and mistrust amongst them as the public watched them as role models in society. "Let us fully concentrate on our duty to educate, inform and entertain society but with circumspection and avoid acts that cannot help us to win the patronage and respect of our colleagues and the public at large". Mr. Koomson urged journalists to look ahead in the New Year and be determined to perform better by avoiding what the profession and right-thinking persons would detest. He commended members of the association for holding aloft the banner of truth in reportage and expressed the hope that up and coming journalists would take a cue and pursue responsible journalism.
