Winneba, C/R, Jan 3, GNA - The Leaders of the Winneba Dentsifo Asafo Company have appealed to the Minister of Lands and Forestry to investigate the sale of a forest used as hunting ground for the Aboakyer festival. They said the forest was government vested land but had been sold by some chiefs of Winneba to some investors, which could affect and the Asafo Company to make a catch during the Annual festival.
Speaking at a news conference at Winneba on Saturday, Nana Kojo Beedu V, Chief of Kojo Beedu, a suburb of Winneba warned people bent on selling the forest popularly known as "Devils Hill" to desist from the act to save the beauty of the festival. He said some people were also felling trees in the forest for charcoal and appealed to the Ministry of Lands and Forestry to check them.
Nana Beedu asked the investors to abandon the idea of purchasing the land, saying, "when the ground is sold where will the Dentsifo Asafo Company make their catch during the festival". According to him the leaders of the Dentsifo Company would continue to protest and protect the interest of the people of Winneba. He appealed to the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations also to help them to unravel the mystery behind the sale of the land, since the Aboakyer festival promotes tourism. Nana Beedu appealed to the National Jubilee Committee to approve a project for Winneba as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Ghana's Independence.
