Agyareago (Ash), June 7, GNA- Mr. George Frimpong, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante-Akim North, has appealed to leaders of two factions engaged in a chieftaincy dispute at Agyareago, a farming community near Odumase to initiate moves to end the 10-year-old disagreement.
He expressed worry that the community has been without a chief after the death of the late chief, Nana Yaw Agyekum due to a disagreement over who should be installed as next traditional ruler. Mr. Frimpong who said these at the commissioning a self-help electrification project at Agyareago, observed that the protracted dispute was adversely affecting the development of the community and cited that there was no known legitimate authority to sell or release lands for development projects.
He suggested the institution of a land allocation committee to be made up of one person each from the two factions to ensure legitimate sale or release of plots to facilitate development. Mr. Frimpong also proposed the opening of a special bank account under the supervision of the assembly into which funds accrued from such sales would be deposited.
He said money that would be realized from such an initiative would be handed over to the community after the successful enstoolment of a new chief.
Mr. Bright Appiadu, assemblyman for the area, observed that due to the absence of a chief in the community, indiscipline among the youth was on the ascendancy and cautioned that the situation could deteriorate if measures were taken to reverse the trend. He entreated the two factions in the dispute to resolve the impasse
amicably to enable them to install a new chief towards peace and development.
