Akosombo (E/R), July 24, GNA - The Asuogyaman District Deputy Coordinating Director, Mr Abdul Rahim Musah, has commended Ghana Telecom (GT) for extending Internet services to the district, saying it would bolster efforts to enhance the area's tourism potentials. Mr Musah said the Assembly had been inundated with requests by patrons to the many tourist sites in the district for web technology, adding that with the introduction of the facility, such complaints would be addressed.

He made these remarks while launching the GT's broadband facility, which is to provide unfettered, cheap and fast access to Internet telephony in Akosombo and its surrounding environs on Monday. Mr Musah said the GT's facility would help add value to the thriving tourism spots in the district. Tourism remains one of the comparative advantages of the district, with facilities such as the Akosombo Hydro Dam and the Adomi Bridge and pristine services like Dodi Island. Other facilities include the plush Volta Hotel, the Akosombo Continental Hotel and the Senchi River Resort, which are all rated tourists spots.

To sustain the longevity of the facility, Mr Musah appealed to the security agencies and members of the community to protect it from miscreants, especially telephone cable thieves. Mr N.A. Fleischer-Brock, Eastern Regional Manager of GT, said hacking of copper lines remained one of the problems facing the company.

He said GT had instituted a reward scheme for those who would volunteer information leading to their arrest of such culprits.
