Kpone, Nov 17, GNA- The Kpone Traditional Council (KTC) has given a 48-acre land to Asogli Power, an independent power provider to replace the disputed land which was initially allocated to the company for the development of a power plant.
The land, allocated to the company three weeks ago lies on the left hilly side of the Tema-Kpone road and half the size of the initial land located near the Volta Aluminium Company (VALCO) given to the company. Mr. Harry Attipoe, Registrar of the Council, announced this at a press conference on Saturday to outline the new developments on the issue.
Among those present at the meeting which was presided over by Nii Tei Adumoa II, Apollonia Mantse were Council members and heads of the ten clan houses of Kpone. Mr. Attipoe said the Council has given an allocation letter to the Company to be sent to the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) for its regularization.
He further stated that the Council caused the arrest of some youth who under the pretext of being king makers stopped the workers from clearing the land for the take-off of the project. Mr. Attipoe explained that under the Kpone tradition, neither the chief nor king makers allocate lands as it was only the Traditional Council that has the authority to do so. He further stated that Kpone has no stool land as its lands have been acquired by government of which the TDC releases some to the Council from time to time.
The KTC Registrar said three leaders of the youth, Abraham Tei Ablade, Kano and Okoe who led the youth to insult the chiefs after disrupting the work on the land would be put before court as their conduct was against section 53 (A) of the Chieftaincy Act. On the issue of the dispute between the Council and VALCO over the ownership of the parcel of land first allocated to Asogli Power, initiated by Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, he said the issue has been sent to the high court for determination. 17 Nov. 07
