Garu-Tempane (U/E), Nov. 28, GNA - The Tamne Bridge in the Garu-Tempane District that got damaged during the recent flood is back in service following its rehabilitation. The August flood virtually destroyed the bridge and cut it from Bawku, Bolgatanga and the Northern Region, bringing economic activities to a halt in the district.

The District Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Asigre, commanded government and the Ghana Highways Authority for their quick response to the catastrophe.

He said when the floods hit the district President John Agyekum Kufuor visited the area and promised the government would repair the bridge and this had been done.

"This demonstrates how this government is concerned and committed to the plight of the people,'' he said. "Now with the repair of the bridge, people can use only 45 minutes to travel from Bawku to Garu-Tempane District instead of two hours through other routes." Mr. Asigre said the distribution of relief items was being done equitable and fairly and cautioned people to desist from reading politics into it.
