Worawora (V/R), Mar. 01, GNA- Irate youths of Worawora, on Friday protested against the inauguration of the Biakoye District with the capital at Nkonya.
The youths, numbering over hundred and clad in red mounted blockades at crossroads in the town and prevented people from other traditional areas from going to the inauguration ceremony. They burnt lorry tyres in the middle of the road, sung war songs and threatened to fight any opposition to their stand of Nkonya being cited as the District Capital.
The youths boycotted any other activity and paraded the town to ensure that nobody passed through or left the town to Nkonya for the inauguration ceremony.
Meanwhile, a court injunction said to have been filed by some chiefs from Worawora and Apesokubi on February 15, this year aborted the inauguration of the District on Friday.
Mr Solomon Donkor, District Chief Executive of Jasikan informed the gathering about the injunction at the 11th hour after people including chiefs and the clergy had gathered waiting for the President's speech to delivered to pave the way for the inauguration.
The crowd dispersed in disappointment and showed their frustration. The chiefs and assembly members of Tapa, Apesokubi, Nkonya and Bowiri, who were at the ceremony to inaugurate the District however held a separate press conference to reiterate their consent to Nkonya being cited as the District capital and urged government not to rescind its decision.
