Cape Coast, March 20, GNA - A total of GH¢1,120 had by Thursday 0820 hours been paid to 70 out of 73 persons registered to benefit from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme in the Cape Coast Metropolis, since disbursement of the money began Wednesday. The 73 beneficiaries, resident at Ekon, Idun/Amissah-Ekyir, Abura and Effutu, received GH¢16.00 each.

Mr Bright Twum, an Assistant Social Worker at the Cape Coast office of the Department of Social Welfare, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Thursday, that his outfit registered 73 caregivers in the beneficiary communities to whom the monies were paid. At the time the GNA got to the offices of the Department of Social Welfare, the remaining three caregivers were waiting to receive the monies on behalf of the beneficiary households. Mr Twum explained that the three could not receive their monies on Wednesday when the exercise took off because they had gone to farm at the time.

According to him, his outfit has educated the beneficiaries on the importance of using part of the money for the education of their children and feeding of the family. He disclosed that his outfit was considering the possibility of using part of the monies meant for the beneficiaries, to register them for the National Health Insurance Scheme.
