Five pregnant girls write BECE

Elmina, April 22, GNA - Five pregnant junior high school girls are among 1, 667 candidates writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo (KEEA) municipality. Two of them are writing the examination at the St Anne's Catholic School centre near Elmina, another two at the Abrem-Agona centre and one at the Komenda Training College examination centre.

This came to light when the Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, toured the examination centres, at Komenda, Abrem-Agona, Kissi, Edinaman senior high school and St Anne's, in the municipality on Tuesday.

One other girl, who is also said to be pregnant, failed to turn up for the examination because of her condition, while 14 other candidates were also absent.

Nana Arthur appealed to the candidates to be disciplined and take the examination seriously and strive to obtain good passes to enable them further their education.
