Mankessim (C/R), July 4, GNA - Chief Superintendent of Police Daniel Sackey, head of the Saltpond District Police Command, has advised long distances commercial drivers to have enough sleep before embarking on their journey.
They should rest in the course of the journey, especially when they feel tired, so as to avoid accidents. Chief Superintendent Sackey gave the advice when he addressed a forum of drivers and other road users at Mankessim. The forum was to find solution to the cause of rampant road accidents recorded in the district these days. The District Police Commander advised commercial vehicle owners to ensure that they provided good spare parts for the maintenance of their vehicles.
He identified tires as one of the essential parts of a vehicle and urged owners and drivers to ensure that they acquire reliable genuine ones for their vehicles. He reminded them to keep to the speed limit of 50 km per hour in the approach to towns with low population and a maximum of 30km per hour in densely populated areas.
Police Inspector Dinah Gorman, Head of the District Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, described a driver as the one who drove to his destination and back safely but not the one who ended the journey half way causing casualties and injuries to his passengers.
