Kumasi, Sept. 10, GNA - Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has advised national service personnel, who have applied for recruitment into the Ghana Education Service (GES) to accept postings to the rural areas, where their services are mostly needed. The youth, he said had a crucial responsibility to improve the living standard of the rural communities.
Mr Onyinah was addressing more than 1,500 national service personnel who applied for recruitment into the G.E.S. at a screening in Kumasi on Monday.
He cautioned them against acts that would tarnish the image and dignity of the teaching profession, adding that, they should not only strictly abide by the code of conduct of the G.E.S. but also conform to the norms, traditional and cultural practices of the rural communities. Mr Kwesi Quainoo, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS), said a competent panel has been put in place to conduct the interview to select dedicated, selfless and qualified personnel. He noted that challenges ahead of the volunteers were critical and useful and stressed the need for the selection of the right calibre of personnel to enable them to make meaningful impact in the rural communities.
Mr Joseph Abeiku, Principal of Kumasi Technical Institute, who presided, observed that the country has reached a stage where the citizenry need to put aside selfishness and other acts that would undermine the development efforts of the government. He said the youth must be effectively mobilized and directed to enable them to contribute meaningfully towards the nation's socio-economic development. Mr Abeiku advised the volunteers to be nationalistic and patriotic to enable them to offer quality leadership to sustain the country's unity, peace and stability.
