Awutu Bawjiase (C/R), Sept. 30 GNA - The District Chief Executive for Awutu-Senya, Mr Solomon Abbam-Quaye has expressed concern about double sales of land at Kasoa and called for a stop to that practice. He appealed to land owners not use the struggle for land for dwelling and farming purposes in the area to engage in double sales of land to prospective clients, which could eventually land them in court.

Mr Abbam Quaye said this in an address read for him at the launching of the first of the Pilot Programmes for the Area-Wide Registration of Rural Land Rights in the Awutu-Senya District at Awutu Bawjiase by the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) The MiDA also inaugurated a Continuously Operating Receiver System (CORS) Station to collect Global Positioning Systems (GPS) Data for the survey for farm parcels project.

Mr Abbam Quaye expressed regret that most communities in the area have sold greater proportion of their farm lands to commercial pineapple farmers.

He said this is good for the local economy, but not good enough for the youth of tomorrow, adding that, children in the area would grow up to meet most of the land sold with nothing left for them to do farming. According to him about 60 per cent of farmers engaged in pineapple farming can be found in the Awutu-Senya district.
