Sekondi, Jan. 2, GNA - Nii Botchway, Secretary of the Sekondi Branch of the Ghana Inshore Fisheries Association, on Monday said the unavailability of equipment for detecting the location of fishes is encouraging the use of aggravated light for fishing in the country. He was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sekondi.

Nii Botchway said fishermen had to resort to the use of the aggravated light to attract fishes when it becomes increasingly difficult to locate them at sea. He suggested to the authorities to import fish detecting equipment and sell them to fishermen to make the ban on the use of aggravated light for fishing effective.

Nii Botchway further urged the authorities to share research findings on fisheries with fishermen to improve the trade. He said new technologies for fishing are emerging and fishermen in the country should have access to these technologies and improved ways of fishing.
