Mumford (C/R), Jan 12, GNA - The Italy branch of the Mumford Development Association has donated eight computers with accessories and a printer valued at about GH¢4,000 for the establishment of an Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) centre for schools in Mumford in the Central Region. Mr John Andoh and Mr George Abekah, both members of the Association who are on holidays, presented the items to Nana Edwey X, Chief of the town and the Very Reverend Emmanuel K. Churcher, Chairman of the Mumford Education Committee.
Mr Andoh said they realized that computer literacy played an important role in education in this modern world and added that; "we will not want our brothers and sisters to be found wanting after their education, because they are not computer literate, hence our decision to establish the ICT training centre, where they could go and learn the subject".
He appealed to the schools to make good use of the centre till they got enough computers for the schools. Mr Abekah called on parents whose children were in Italy to impress upon them to join the Association, so that they could plan together for the development of the town. Nana Edwey commended members of the Association for their gesture and appealed to citizens living in other parts of the world to emulate their example.
"We need the help of all citizens to make the town a worthy place to live in," the Chief stressed. Very Rev Churcher said the Education Committee was working hard to improve the standard of education in the town and appealed to teachers and parents to encourage the children to patronize the community library to help them cultivate the habit of reading. He expressed gratitude to Ms Charlotte Obiri a citizen domiciled in London for donating 10 computers to the town.
