Accra, Feb 7, GNA - The Osu Divisional Council (ODC) has presented 67 computers and its accessories, worth GH¢32,000 to selected basic schools in Osu, to enhance the teaching of Information, Communication Technology (ICT), within the Community.
The computers were handed over to the beneficiary institutions, namely, Ringway Estates Junior High, the Osu Presbyterian Preparatory and the Saint Peter's Basic Schools, at a ceremony at the Osu Mantse Palace, Kinkawe on Wednesday.
Speaking at the function, Nii Nortey Owuo the Third, Osu Mantse and the President of the Osu Divisional Council, said the gesture was the Council's first step to "our collaboration and co-operation with AMA in providing education, health, sanitation and other facilities in Osu." Nii Owuo observed that most schools in the community needed massive rehabilitation works, whilst others like the Salem Boys Boarding School, had to be rebuilt.
He said it was gratifying to note that the Old Boys Association of Salem Boys Boarding School had produced the drawings for the new structures, and hoped the project would be awarded on contract in the second half of this year. Nii Owuo appealed to social partners to assist the Council in its development efforts.
On peace, he urged people in the community to bury their differences and live in peace with one another, adding, "we need to come together as one people, to rebuild the fatherland; we owe this to ourselves, our children, and the good people of Ghana." Nii Nortey Omatuo the Sixth, Osu Ashante Dzaasetse, stressed the need for ODC to co-operate with AMA to help provide the community with social amenities.
Nii Adu Mante, former Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, asked pupils in the beneficiary schools to take advantage of the equipment and develop keen interest in computers. Professor Nii Narku Quaynor, Member of the Osu Education, Youth and Welfare Committee of ODC, who presented the items, urged the beneficiary schools to take good care of the equipment, in order to prolong its life span. Mr Kusi Appiah of the Metropolitan Directorate of the Ghana Education Service received the computers on behalf of the schools, and thanked the ODC for the king gesture.
