Sekondi, Feb 24, GNA - Mr Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, outgoing Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, on Tuesday called on members of the Assembly to continue to work as a team to move the area forward in development.

He made the call in a farewell address at an extraordinary meeting of the Assembly at Sekondi.

"We cannot afford to disappoint posterity, the present and future generations of Sekondi-Takoradi with our parochial interests," Mr Nkrumah said, adding that the success of the Assembly would be measured by the extent to which members were able to assist in reducing poverty, ignorance and disease among the people. Mr Nkrumah said the Assembly began the construction of an emergency and accident centre at the Takoradi Hospital in 2004 but the project had come to a standstill due to lack of funds.

He said the assembly also decided to form a football club as part of its image building and youth development policy which was aimed at marketing the metropolis and also to develop soccer talents. Mr. Nkrumah hoped the assembly would continue to implement planned projects including providing modern markets for Sekondi and Takoradi. He said a total of 121 projects estimated at GH¢7.2 million were executed by the assembly under his leadership.
