Asebu (C/R), May 25, GNA - Nana Amanfi Okatakyie VII, Omanhene of Asebu Traditional Area at the weekend presented assorted reading materials worth over 5,000 Ghana cedis to 14 schools to help improve quality education in the area.
Nana Okatakyie said it was his desire to help improve education in the area in order to make the traditional area one of the best in academic performance in the country. He expressed concern about the poor academic performance of students in the Central Region and pledged to redouble his efforts to help address the situation.
The beneficiary schools included basic and senior high schools are Akonoma, Old Abu, Amosima, Amosima Methodist, Asebu Ekroful, Potubiw, Roman Catholic, Asebu Apewosika and Asebu Junior High Schools as well as Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School and Moree Secondary Technical. He said the Asebu Traditional Council has established an education fund to support needy but brilliant students, but was unhappy that people from the area were not contributing towards its successful implementation and urged all citizens to support such a worthy cause.
He advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the books to encourage his development partners who made the book donations. Mrs. Rebecca Araba Neizer, District Director of Education for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, thanked the Omanhene for the support and urged all stakeholders to assist teachers in educating students, adding that parents should regularly visit their wards in school and find out about their performance to motivate them to learn.
Mrs. Neizer also expressed regret on the increasing number of teenage pregnancies among pupils in the district and advised the pupils to shun social vices and too much entertainment activities and called on the district assembly to institute bye-laws to ban students and pupils from attending such functions. Ms. Aba Edusah, District Chief Executive for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, announced government's commitment to enhance education in the country and said the assembly would not relent in its effort to support the commitment. She urged all well-meaning Ghanaians to emulate the gesture of Nana Okatakyie VII. 25
