Ashaiman, May 26, GNA - The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Local Council of Churches on Sunday held a post election non-denominational thanksgiving service with a call on the NDC government not to concentrate its activities on holding seminars, talks and meetings.

The service also aimed at welcoming Mr Adinortey Addison Numo, Chief Executive and Mr Alfred Kwame Agbesi, the Member of Parliament into office. Preaching on the theme, "Let us Rise and Build," the Reverend C.K. Ahorble, who is in charge of the Ashaiman Presbyterian Church, noted that dwelling too much on theories delayed development and progress. "The time has come for the government to move into action by implementing its manifesto as it has only four years to be judged by Ghanaians through voting."

He said instead of spending much time on seminars, talks and meetings, the government should rather use documents left behind by the New Patriotic Party Administration as they aimed at achieving the same purpose.

The Rev. Minister stressed the need for government appointees to always move to the field to ensure that the right thing was done instead of sitting in the offices and issuing directives. "Don't start afresh, use the materials given to you by NPP government, this is not the time to sit in offices, go to the field, the talking is over and action is the word," he stated. On the sinking image of Ashaiman, Rev. Ahorble expressed worry about the negative attitudes of the constituents and impressed upon them to redeem their image by putting up good behaviour. This should rather start with the political heads in Ashaiman who have differences between them to pave way for others to emulate. He condemned the recent reports of assault on the MP by the Ashaiman NDC Chairman, Mr Issifu Braimah, saying that while the religious heads would pray for peace they should also play their role for amicable settlements.

For his part, Mr Agbesi said as a lawyer and MP, he would not condone wrong doing and illegal seizure of properties, which lead to his assault, "so the blows should come". The MP, therefore, called on the constituents not to take the law into their hands. To redeem the image of Ashaiman, Mr Agbesi suggested the institution of non-denominational service periodically to reform the people.

Mr Numo, the MCE, outlined developmental projects including the construction of markets, street lights and schools, among others and called for hard work and cooperation from the assembly members and constituents to ensure success.

The Very Reverend Samuel Adu-Boateng, Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, expressed gratitude to God that despite the confronting challenges, the 2008 election ended peacefully and successfully. Prayers were said for God's guidance, protection and blessing for the leadership of the nation, political heads and the entire Ghanaian society for the continued peace of the nation.
