Kumasi, June 7, GNA - The Chiefs and people of Kaasi, a suburb of Kumasi at the weekend raised GH¢10,000.00 towards the completion a one storey classroom block for the local Junior High School (JHS). This is to help create more space for the growing population and end
the school's present shift system. Mr Charles Oduro Acheampong, the assembly member, said the project, which started two years ago, is being implemented through special levy on
the people and voluntary contributions. It is expected to be completed within a year. Mr Acheampong appealed to timber companies and other industries operating in the area to support the project. Mr Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, urged the communities to help create the right environment for effective teaching and learning in schools. Information and Communication Technology (ICT), he said, would from next year become a compulsory subject at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and therefore it was important all schools established
computer laboratories. Mr Onyinah promised to ensure that the school's library was adequat ely stocked. A cocoa processing company, ADM, donated six computers and accessor ies to the school, while the Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Mr Maxwell Kofi
Jumah, pledged to give scholarship to 10 brilliant but needy school child ren to pursue Senior High School (SHS) education. Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) is rehabilitating the Ka asi M/A basic school which had its roofs completely ripped off and parts of t he walls damaged during a recent rainstorm. The Assembly is re-roofing the block, replacing the wooden pillars with metal ones and fixing the crack walls. 7 June 10
