Youth to be assisted to go into farming

Mon, 12 Jul 2010 Source: GNA

Sunyani, July 12, GNA - The government is to establish agricultural mechanization centres in all the 10 regions to provide farm inputs to the unemployed youth who are ready to go into farming, Mr. Ludwig Hlodze, National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has said. He said he had asked regional and constituency executives of the NDC to liaise with traditional rulers to acquire land and also register the youth interested in modern agriculture. Mr. Hlodze said this at the Brong-Ahafo Regional youth forum of the NDC in Sunyani.

The forum which brought together regional and constituency executives of the NDC as well as party faithful was on the theme "unite we must". He said tractors would be made available at the centres to plough the lands whilst other farming inputs would be given to those interested in farming.

Mr. Hlodze said regional youth funds would be launched in August to raise money to support the NDC youth to go into skill training and advised supporters to remain loyal to the party. Mr. Alex Segbefia, the Deputy Chief of Staff, appealed to supporters of the NDC to exercise patience whilst the government worked hard to addressing the unemployment rate. He expressed regret that party issues which needed to be addressed indoors were always put in the media and appealed to members to use laid down party structures to settle grievances. Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a Deputy Minister of Information, stressed the need for leaders of the NDC to re-organise themselves and find innovative means of generating income locally to support party activities.

He advised supporters of the party to eschew internal wrangling, petty squabbles, to close their rank and regard the party as supreme and bigger than individuals. Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms. Anna Bisiw, Deputy Minister, Works, Housing and Water Resources and Mr. Kwaku Atuahene, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of the party took turns to address the supporters. They appealed to the supporters to make unity their hallmark and support one another in times of trouble. 12 July 10
